• Band members: Alex Edkins (guitar); Chris Slorach (bass); Hayden Menzies (drums)
• Biggest hit: So far, “Negative Space”
• Must-listen, little-known hit: A debut LP still on the way, we’ll wait and see
• Year formed: 2009
• Genre: Post-punk, experimental grunge
• Most notable achievement/fact: The Toronto band makes a whole lot of (good/great/chaotic/awesome) noise. Now when you Google search METZ, they come up second – right behind the city in France

A BAND A DAY WITH NXNE: HOLLERADO

LOWDOWN:
• Band members: Dean Baxter (bass, vocals); Jake Boyd (drums, vocals); Nixon Boyd (guitars, vocals); Menno Versteeg (guitar, lead vocals)
• Biggest hit: “Juliette,” heard in commercials and stadiums all over the country
• Must-listen, little-known hit: “Canadianarama”
• Most notable achievement/fact: Hollerado are DIY superheroes and have perfected the art of fun shows since their homemade Demo in a Bag albums. Read their rise to glory on their website, handwritten by lead singer Menno. (How’s THAT for analog?)

• Genre: Ethereal dream-pop
• Most notable achievement/fact: An actress-turned-singer who doesn’t suck? Pretty notable to us

• Band members: Isaac Emmanuel (vocals/electronics); Melati Malay (guitar/vocals); Michael Italia (percussion)
• Biggest hit:  “Sparkly” – a song that appropriately sparkles
• Must-listen, little-known hit: We don’t know about little-known, but “Slip Time” is a must-listen
• Year formed: 2009 
• Genre: Experimental electronic psychedelia with lots of soul
• Most notable achievement/fact: They wandered the world, collected sounds, made a band. Living the sonic landscape dream.

Biggest hit:  “Heart Attack Kid”
Must-listen, little-known hit: “Nerve Jamming”
Year formed: 2007
Genre: Garage rock/grunge
Most notable achievement/fact: The “band” began with: John + a guitar + a bass drum = “John Barrett’s Bass Drum of Death.” John later taught Colin how to play drums. He was added to the lineup and two words were dropped from the name.

LOWDOWN:
• Band members: Shane Parsons (vocals/guitar); Simon Ridley (drums)
• Biggest hit: “No Sleep”
• Must-listen, little-known hit: The crashing, fuzzed out “Gebbie Street” that gives good cause for the NXNE alumn DFA1979 comparisons
• Year formed: 2008
• Genre: Thrash punk
• Most notable achievement/fact: Late last year, the duo toured Australia (their home country) with Foo Fighters, but say they only met Grohl and company once. It’s cool though, since Parsons and Ridley got to hang with tour mates and Toronto heroes Fucked Up
