A BAND A DAY WITH NXNE: METZ
LOWDOWN:• Band members: Alex Edkins (guitar); Chris Slorach (bass); Hayden Menzies (drums) • Biggest hit: So far, “Negative Space” • Must-listen, little-known hit: A debut LP still on the way, we’ll wait and see • Year formed: 2009 • Genre: Post-punk, experimental grunge • Most notable achievement/fact: The Toronto band makes a whole lot of (good/great/chaotic/awesome) noise. Now when you Google search METZ, they come up second – right behind the city in France
METZ make a triumphant return for another round of NXNE. Visit nxne.com/2012/metz for more on the trio. High-res

Negative Space” makes our heads hurt. Job well done.

• They don’t just do dark, dingy clubs - here’s a video of METZ basking in the sun at Yonge-Dundas Square during NXNE 2011.
• For when you want your laundry cleaned loudly, METZ take it to New Brunswick and play a Laundromat.

METZ

METZ rocked our face off. Seriously. We have only smooth skin covering where our eyes, nose, and lips used to be. These guys were recently signed to Sub Pop, who will be releasing their first LP this October. They’re demons onstage but are totally friendly. Check out our short chat with them, along with some footage of their Phoenix show. Warning: Hold onto your face.

Soft Whiteout” is less soft, more drum-assault

• Punk-chops with this cover of Sparklehorse’s “Pig
• “Automat” – because we need more convincing that robots are cool

THREE FACTS

• NXNE alumn P.S. I Love You was asked to recommend a band to the world. They pointed straight at METZ.

• Toronto indie punkers Soft Copy said METZ was the loudest thing they’ve seen (or technically heard) since 1992, when they saw My Bloody Valentine. So yeah, bring earplugs.

• Their 2012 Record Store Day release was a cover of Sparklehorse’s “Pig.” Available at Toronto’s Sonic Boom, only 150 copies were up for grabs.
